Velu's most recent significant case was one where he successfully argued at trial against a drug trafficking charge which carried the mandatory death penalty to one of non-capital charge thus saving the accused life.
In this case the accused was arrested by officers of the Central Narcotics Bureau and 2 kg of cannabis was found tucked at the waist. The accused was charged and committed to stand trial for drug trafficking which carried the mandatory death penalty. The accomplice was one of the "star" witnesses for the prosecution.
