Valerie has been interested in law as a career from a very young age. She enjoys being in a profession that offers many real-life challenges and exposes her to diverse experiences.
Valerie graduated from the University of Hull in 1993 and was admitted to the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 1994. She has grown with the firm since pupillage, except for a one-year stint as in-house counsel, and is proud to be part of a legacy and wants to see it continue to expand.
Valerie's areas of practice include corporate litigation such as shareholders' disputes, arbitration and general litigation. She is also called upon to work with the senior directors on complex cases. Valerie also assists Sreeni in the management of the firm.
At home, she enhances her time-management skills, as she tries to claw-back time not spent with her two kids while at work. She receives practical home-training on her negotiation skills with her growing kids, especially with her elder child, as she tries to get them to do what she thinks is best for them.

"This case keeps me grounded. It was a case against an organisation in which our client's husband served as a regular. Her husband was abroad on a training operation when he died. The organisation found that his death was not attributable to service and his family was denied certain awards under the organisation's regulations. Our client came to see us with her 3 children who were then aged 12, 8 and 4 requesting for assistance.
Significant amount of time was spent on research as there was not much Singapore case law on this area - namely what the requirements were for proving whether an injury was "attributable to service". However, with the mental picture of our client with her 3 young children etched in my mind, the desire to obtain the maximum awards for her was the ultimate aim.
All the work was worth it as the organisation saw the merits in our client's appeal and made the appropriate awards.”
