Ramesh Bharani

Ramesh graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2005 and was called to the Singapore Bar in May 2007.

Prior to reading law, Ramesh was practicing as an accountant for a year before becoming an auditor. He was an Auditor in a renowned local accounting firm for three years where he gained a wealth of experience in auditing, compliance testing (internal control audits), forensic audits, audit of solicitors’ trust accounts and other special audits. As an auditor, Ramesh was heavily involved in forensic audits. His significant assignment involved investigation work of a listed company in Singapore.

Ramesh believes that his grounding in accounting and auditing will enable him to give competent and insightful advice in civil as well as in commercial crime matters.

Ramesh believes that to enjoy and to remain practicing as a lawyer, it is important where one begins his/her career. He chose Straits Law Practice LLC as the firm guarantees a supportive work environment, without compromising the rigorous training that could be offered to a new member of the Bar.

Ramesh also enjoys the independence he is given at the firm.

Ramesh is a member of Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) Australia

Most Significant Legal Cases to Date

Very early in his career, Ramesh successfully defended a party in a High Court trial involving a dispute over the proportion and payment of sales commission arising out of a collective sale. The proportion of the commission payment was agreed verbally by the parties as such, there was very little hard evidence on this. Further, he was up against a senior litigator. After a five days trial, Ramesh established that justice was on his client's side.

Ramesh has been briefed on numerous criminal matters. Recently, he defended a teenager who was charged with rioting with dangerous weapons. Ramesh felt great satisfaction in handling this case as he was representing a teenager who had previous abrasions with the law but was committed to mending his ways. Ramesh managed to reduce the charge and his client was sentenced to probation.
